Jean Edwards Cellars

Learn more about our team...

Karen and John Troisi work for a major international company located in the Northeast and are also the owners of Jean Edwards Cellars. Jean Edwards Cellars is a small, boutique winery focused on cabernet sauvignon production.  Karen handles the sales and marketing efforts while John works closely with our winemaking team.  We share a passion for wine, a similar palate and a singular vision on the style of wines we produce.

In 1985, we started our dream of someday producing a cabernet sauvignon wine from Napa Valley called Jean Edwards Cellars (a combination of our middle names). It was always a dream for years down the road when we retired from the corporate world - but the opportunity presented itself a bit earlier than expected and in 2004 we established our current team.  In the Fall of 2006 we released our first wine (a single-vineyard, cabernet sauvignon from the prestigious Stagecoach Vineyard).

As a wine producer you can only hope your wine is well-received by the public and the wine community and "we hit the lottery -- not once but twice" with our first release.  Wine Spectator Magazine rated this wine 92 points (May, 2007) and than named us to their list of new cabernet producers to watch in their article entitled "Ones to Watch - twenty new faces that aim for the gold ring and could be the next cult wines" (annual cabernet review issue November,
2007).

Our vision is to bring you small-lot, ultra-premium red wines sourced from superior vineyards along with providing great customer service.  Since our motto is "you should only make wines you love to drink" cabernet sauvignon will always remain our primary focus.  We do, however, produce a small amount of syrah each vintage -- with the same dedication to style, care and quality as our cabernet wines.

We hope you enjoy our wines!

Our winemaker...   In 2004, after a number of years as private winemakers, we launched our brand and produced our first wine (a cabernet sauvignon from Stagecoach Vineyard).  Mid-way through the first vintage, Kian Tavakoli became our head winemaker.  Kian is a graduate of UC Davis and has vast winemaking and blending experience.  He previously worked at Opus One (1992-1996) and was Clos du Val's winemaker (1996-2004) where he was responsible for overseeing their cabernet program.

Working together as a cohesive winemaking team, Kian handles our day-to-day winemaking operations and brings to life our vision for each wine.  He shares our passion for producing the best wines possible from the best fruit sources while retaining a sense of place in our wines.
