Jean Edwards Cellars
About our wines...

Our flagship wine, our 2007 offering from Stagecoach Vineyard is wonderfully balanced with good acidity and structure while remaining luscious and velvety in the mouth. This vineyard consistently produces wines of the highest quality and we are confident the 2007 vintage will showcase the best characteristics it has to offer. Cherry, cassis and plum notes combine with a thread of mocha in the mid-palate. The dark fruit nose is layered with a hint of creme brulee. A less aggressive style than our Napa Valley cabernet offering, this stunning wine is softer and more approachable in its youth.

This 100% cabernet sauvignon wine is primarily sourced from Howell Mountain fruit. We blended in a small amount of cabernet sauvignon from select valley floor vineyards which provide additional layering, complexity and added characteristic hints of Napa Valley "dust". This is a concentrated wine with deep intense color and structure. Dark mountain fruit (black cherry and blackberry) is complimented by hints of vanilla in the mouth followed by lingering rich, oaky tannins. This is a mountain cabernet that will continue to gain complexity as it ages gracefully.

Sourced from the same vineyard as premium syrah producers such as Pax, Relic and Rudius, in 2007 we were able to contract for a small amount of fruit from multiple blocks within this famous vineyard resulting in our limited (75 case) offering. This vineyard is known for huge wines that require significant cellaring time - we throttled back the style a bit and offer you a more approachable version while still retaining vineyard origins and longevity. The wine has a beautiful dense deep purple color. Blueberries and black raspberries, in the nose and mouth, overlay structure and weight. Tannins are evident but not overbearing. While a slightly softer style than others from this vineyard, we do recommend a medium decant to bring forth all the layers and flavors.

Wine Spectator Magazine 90 pts. Similar in style to our 2004 release and a bit softer than our 2005. This wine has an enticing vanilla custard nose overlaying dark cherry fruit. The mocha mid-tones are interwoven nicely with dark fruit on the palate. This is an elegant mouth-filling wine that is very luscious and velvety with a lingering finish of round, polished tannins. Not yet rated.
"Aromas of loamy earth, currant and mocha-laced oak are full-bodied and intense. Still chewy, tight and compact, yet this is a wine of substance, depth and persistence. Needs time. Best from 2010 through 2017. 75 cases made - JL (web only)"

This syrah is a blend of three well-known vineyards- 85% syrah from Las Madres Vineyard (located in Carneros); 10% syrah from White Hawk Vineyard (located in Santa Barbara County) and 5% petite sirah from Eaglepoint Ranch Vineyard (located in Mendocino). This is a medium bodied syrah with a dark ruby/purple color, good structure, acidity, layering and balance. A very food friendly wine. Accessible now but should age nicely over the next 5 to 7 years.

More concentrated than our 2004 offering from this same vineyard, our 2005 Stagecoach Vineyard cabernet sauvignon has deep dark cherry fruit and hints of mocha; big, round and oaky tannins, and great structure/backbone. Medium-to-heavy weight - this is a very age-worthy wine that will benefit from decanting and patience. Sourced from a low-yield, organic vineyard in Carneros, our 2005 syrah is not your typical "fruit bomb" syrah. It is a beautifully balanced and complex wine (dark fruit, bouquet garne', earthiness, white pepper, black olive and acidity). The wine finishes with nicely integrated tannins. We extended the barrel aging on this wine which added depth and complexity. Wine Spectator Magazine 92 pts. Our 2004 Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was our first release and will always have a special place in our hearts.
